Steph's Cushy Crochet

introduction

Hi there anyone whoever is reading my new blog. So first a little about me and my reason for creating this blog. I work in a local haberdashery, this is probably where my addiction to crotchet started. I love my job and my surroundings as I'm surrounded by beautiful bright colours and patterns everyday and this feeds my inspiration for all my projects. I have always been a creative person, completing my fine art degree at UCA about 3 years ago. I have always dabbled in a bit of everything creative and love trying new things. So my reasons for creating this blog is a way of archiving my project and sharing with others.
One of my biggest loves about crotchet is that, once you know the stitches or patterns, you can do whatever you like with it . One of my favourite thing is to make projects out of is the Granny Square. These are so simple to make and can be used to create almost anything with a bit of imagination. Most people thing this is an old fashioned method but to me this is defiantly my "go to" when creating projects as there are so meny varieties and using very simple stitches to create very effective pieces .

As of quite recently, I have started making wedding ring cushions, with the intention to sell. I got into these as a friend of the family runs a vintage wedding hire business and saw some of my older cushion project and asked if I'd like to make some for a wedding fair in november to try and sell. I have never done stuff like this before and am excited for the opportunity. So the next few images will be what i have made so far, using different variations of granny squares. I tweak each one a little to make them all individual and unique. My aim is to make them look modern, lacy and elegant. Making them associated with the older granny square that people think are old fashion and clunky. I generally have alot of fun making these and try to make each one individual. In the future i would love to make them on request for weddings. But the profit isn't the reason why i make them its just the love of making new things, experimenting with colours and materials and pushing my skills.

Flower Cushions

(top image first flower cushion made , bottom picture most resent )

the top images is of my first ever cushion in this style . At first i was just experimenting and using up some of my ever increasing yarn stash . The colours i used in this one was literally just playing around and using up colours left over from other projects, that i didn't think id use again . i then posted of Facebook some images of what i was doing and ended up getting ask by family members to make a few up as gifts for others . with each one i make i try and make it individual for each person , never really wanting to replicate completely.

This cushion I have recently been commotion to make for a family member. This is a 16” x16” so one of my larger pieces , the customer gave a brief of using a variety of the colour blue . so I have used two strands of four plan yarns ( Stylecraft special DK) to create strong contrasts . for the centre of the cushion I have this time round used bright blue shaded bead to both merge and bring out  the different colours in the yarn . the colours in this one were great to work with as blue is one of my personal favourite colours so making something completely out of blues was a pleasure . i enjoy making this style cushions slightly more then the smaller wedding ring cushions sometimes , mainly because of the possibility to be bolder with the colours and experiment more .

I'm always welcome a new challenges and projects so if anyones interested in my products or have any any questions please follow the link to my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StephsCushyCrochet/
